Credit to Emily慢生活Vlog for getting eyes-level footage of a new Google facility in Singapore — most of what the public sees of these buildings is a fence line and a logo, so any ground-level look is useful, even in vlog form. But it's worth being upfront: this is Singapore, not the U.S., and the two markets don't play by the same rules.

Singapore actually paused new data center approvals for years over grid and land strain before easing up with efficiency mandates. That's the opposite of how a lot of U.S. counties operate, where facilities get waved through with tax abatements and vague promises about jobs, while power and water agreements get worked out later — or never get disclosed at all. The contrast is the real story here: what does a government look like when it actually negotiates leverage against a hyperscaler, versus one that just says yes.
