This time the news is almost anticlimactic: the developer withdrew its rezoning request before the Irwin County Board of Commissioners had to take a stand, so there was no vote, no public record of who backed the project and who didn't.
Don't mistake a withdrawal for a defeat. Applications like these get pulled for all kinds of reasons — bad optics, a weak site, or simply a pause to retool the pitch and come back later with a friendlier package. Rural counties across Georgia and the country are getting these offers constantly, often bundled with tax abatements and vague promises about jobs, while the real asks — massive power draw, water for cooling, land use changes — get less scrutiny than they deserve.
