Credit to Tech In Check for pulling back the curtain on the Intelligent Computing Center in Inner Mongolia — a 3-million-square-foot cluster the video says packs over a million GPUs and draws 1.2 gigawatts, built in under two years. We can't independently verify every figure in that description, but even in the ballpark, it's a jaw-dropper: that's city-scale electricity demand and reportedly 20,000 gallons a minute of cooling water, poured into concrete in a fraction of the time it takes most U.S. utilities to permit a single substation upgrade.

The framing as a 'computing weapon' is marketing flourish, but the underlying point is real: this is a state-directed industrial buildout, not a market experiment. Here in the U.S., we're watching similar gigawatt-scale campuses get greenlit county by county, often with tax abatements and utility rate deals negotiated behind closed doors, while ratepayers and well owners find out after the fact what they signed up for. China's version just makes the stakes more visible — one project, one gigawatt, one line on a map.
