15 MASSIVE Data Centers Under Construction
The short version: A rapid-fire countdown of 15 mega data centers is a good spotting guide — but it skips the power, water, and tax bills left for host communities.
Our Take
Top Fives' rundown of 15 massive data centers under construction is a useful spotting guide — the kind of highlight reel that shows just how fast this buildout is moving across the country and beyond. Credit where it's due: stacking that many projects side by side makes the scale impossible to ignore. But a countdown video isn't built to ask who's paying for all of it, and that's where our job starts.
Every one of those facilities needs a substation upgrade, a water contract, and usually a property tax abatement that some county commission voted through with little public debate. The video shows you the buildings; it doesn't show you the ratepayers absorbing new transmission costs, the aquifers drawn down for cooling, or the acreage rezoned from farmland to fenced-off server halls. Those are the details that actually determine whether a community comes out ahead or just gets the noise, the traffic, and the diesel backup generators.
If any of these 15 projects are near you, check our facility map to see what's already been approved in your area, and visit our take-action page if you want to know how to get in front of the next vote before it's finalized.
