Credit to KMBC 9 for getting cameras in the room, because a 5-2 count on 400 acres tells you the deal was contested, not consensus — someone on that council heard the objections and voted yes anyway.

What usually gets glossed over in these five-minute local segments is the fine print: what substation upgrades ratepayers will quietly subsidize, how many million gallons a day get pulled for cooling, and whether the tax abatements handed to the developer were ever pressure-tested against what the city actually gets back in jobs and revenue. Four hundred acres doesn't just disappear from the tax rolls and reappear as a windfall — someone always eats the difference, usually through utility bills or watershed strain nobody voted on directly.
