That same question is exactly what we ask every time a hyperscaler announces a new campus. The pitch is always frictionless: more compute, no visible mess. But the load doesn't disappear — it moves onto a regional grid, a municipal water system, a county tax base, and a permitting process that most residents never see until the substation or the water lines show up. Managed services abstract away an NVA stack for a network engineer. They don't abstract away the megawatts, the gallons, or the acres for the town next door.
Cloud efficiency stories are genuinely useful engineering news. Just don't let the word "managed" do the work of making the buildout's costs invisible to the people actually paying for them in rate hikes and drawn-down aquifers.
