The short version: A clean tour of compute, power, and cooling systems is useful, but the real story is who pays for the substations, backup generators, and water loops once the cameras leave.

Our Take

Credit to tech it away for a clear, jargon-free walkthrough of what's actually humming inside these buildings — racks of GPUs, substation feeds and battery rooms, and the air and liquid loops hauling away all that waste heat. It's a good primer on the physical guts of the AI boom, and the PUE metric is worth knowing if you ever sit through a public hearing about one of these campuses.

But 'calm and factual' about the hardware can leave out the part that actually lands on your street: someone has to build the substation, someone signs off on the water rights for that cooling loop, and someone's utility bill absorbs the ripple effects when a campus draws power like a small city. The video frames scale as awe-inspiring engineering. We'd add that every transformer and generator described in that footage was permitted, financed, and often tax-abated by a local government — decisions made long before residents saw a construction crew.
