A hyperscale campus running evaporative cooling can burn through tens or hundreds of millions of gallons a year, while a closed-loop liquid-cooled facility can shrink that number dramatically. That distinction matters, and it's one we wish showed up more often in the permit hearings we track.
Here's the part that gets lost once the video ends: 'little to no water on-site' doesn't mean 'no water, period.' Closed-loop systems still need makeup water for chillers, still draw power from a grid where electricity generation itself has a water footprint, and the industry rarely commits to public, verifiable numbers on any of it.
