But notice what's missing: any mention of who pays for the substations, the water pulled for cooling, or the megawatts drawn off a grid that everyday ratepayers share. That's not a knock on this particular video — it's not what it was made for — but it's exactly the gap GridWatch exists to fill here in the U.S. Every one of these gleaming hyperscale campuses going up in Virginia, Georgia, Arizona, and beyond came with a real deal: tax abatements approved by a county board, a utility interconnection queue, sometimes a water permit nobody outside the planning office noticed. "Advantages" for the operator and the cloud customer don't automatically mean advantages for the town hosting the building.
