Buzzing Now's video isn't about America, but the question it raises — can a power grid built for yesterday's demand handle the AI buildout everyone wants tomorrow — is exactly the one we keep asking about the U.S. grid, county by county. Sridhar Vembu's warning that energy cost could be the real ceiling on AI ambition, not chips or capital, applies just as much in Virginia or Georgia as it does in India. The physics of cooling servers and moving electrons doesn't care which flag is on the building.
Here's the part that should sting a little: India is at least having this debate in public, before the shovels are all in the ground. In the U.S., a lot of these deals get signed as economic-development wins with the megawatt and gallon-per-day numbers buried in permit filings nobody reads until the rate hike or the water restriction shows up. "Build smarter instead of bigger" is a fine slogan, but it only works if someone outside the industry is asking the question before the substation upgrade gets billed to ratepayers.
