COUNTY COMMISSION RECORD, VERNON COUNTY Wednesday , August 26 , 20 26 , 7 th August Adj . THE VERNON COUNTY COMMISSION MET, PURS U ANT TO ADJOU RNMENT , WEDNESDAY , AUGUST 26 , 20 26, AT 9:00 A .M. PRESENT: JOE WILSON, PRESIDING COMMISSIONER AND JOHN SHORTEN , SOUTHERN COMMISSIONER , CINDY THOMPSON, NORTHERN COMMISSIONER LAWSUIT A video conference was held with Erik Sexton with Fisher, Patterson, Sayler & Smith. All documentation for the Mathis vs. Vernon County Commission, et al, case was requested and sent via Dropbox. A statement from Mathis was sent for review. RADIOS Commission ers Thompson and Shorten attended a meeting with Sheriff Mike Bue h ler, Derald Neugebauer, Chief Deputy ; Derik White, Emergency Management Officer ; and Jonathan Ayr e s with Public Safety Solutions Missouri, LLC , at the Emergency Management building. A discussion was held on the radios that the county purchased in 2025 and the options to resolve issues the City of Nevada is having with the radios. CUSTODIAN Calls were made to the applicants. One answered and an interview was set up for Wednesday, September 9 th . ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Tina Cochran, Economic Developer, met with the Commission. She gave an update on Build Vernon County. The bank account is now open, and things are starting to transition. They are working on a budget for 2027, and they will have a board meeting on September 24 th . The city of Nevada is requesting the proposal from Build Vernon County by October 1 st . The Economic Developer contract will be up for renewal in November. The County will not be renewed , and the new contract will be under Build Vernon County. She also shared the following: The Chamber of Commerce and Crowder College are putting on a 16-week program called “Heartland Business Academy.” The cost of the program is $250. This is a pilot program to start or grow a small business. The Evergy Data Center seminar that was canceled has been rescheduled for October 6 th . On My Own is holding an Employer Training on October 1 st . RECYCLING CENTER The county received grant money from Region M Waste Management District in the amount of $64,500.20 to be used for recycling purposes.
