Guests:
• Jackie Cox was present to inquire about the power outage on July 3. She would like to know
why nothing has been done about the utility wires that are hanging down and frayed. She said
that she understands that council is not in charge of utilities. The mayor explained that the BPA
is a separate entity and he will speak with them about this issue. Jackie is fearful of a fire
starting. She has been in contact with the Dayton electric company asking for information.
There was a brief discussion about the possibility of a data center coming to Mercer County.
Alexandra Busacca asked if we are notified about power outages ahead of time. The mayor
stated that usually we don’t know about the outage until it occurs.
• Lanny Hammitt wants to know why something has not been done about the cars. Ross did send
the certified letters out last week to the properties that are in violation. He gave them 30 days
to make an attempt to fix the issue. Then the problem will be addressed.
• Pete Van Arsdel was present to discuss a solution to the speeding problem in the village. He
suggests a camera system to catch the people speeding through the village. Ohio allows
cameras to catch speeders and it will generate a monetary fine to the offender. They could be
mounted on top of the light poles at the ends of town. The cameras are roughly $3,000. It is
enforceable. Pete also stated the need for enforcement of our ordinances to take care of the
junk. Mahargs will pick up extra items, that may be too large for a bag, for a small fee. Pete also
suggested a golf cart instead of a police car and someone to write a ticket to offenders. Ross
has spoken to Rockford about their police and if there was any opportunity to share their time.
