MonkeyExplains built this one around AI art theft and a Kickstarter sponsor, but the back half is where it earns attention: the electricity costs, the water costs, and the gap between corporate "sustainability" claims and what's actually being permitted in real communities. That's the part we track every day, and it's worth watching even if you skip past the sponsor pitch.
The pattern the video gestures at is real. A handful of firms decide they need more compute, utilities and local officials say yes, and the bill for new substations, transmission lines, and water allocations lands on ratepayers and neighbors who never got a real vote. "Sustainability" language in a press release doesn't mean much when the actual permit lets a facility pull millions of gallons a day or draw power that pushes peaker plants to run longer.
We'd push back a little on lumping every grievance about AI into one "crisis" bucket — content theft and grid strain are different fights with different fixes.
