Credit to WLBT 3 On Your Side for showing what accountability actually looks like: a packed room of Jackson residents showing up on a weeknight to tell their Planning Board they don't want a data center rezoned into their backyard. This is the same pattern we track everywhere — a project shows up as a line item on an agenda, and the community is left to do the homework on what a hyperscale facility means for their block, their power bills, and their water table.

Rezoning fights like this one are the actual choke point in the data center boom. Once land is rezoned, the leverage residents have mostly evaporates — the next steps become permitting formalities, not real debate. That's exactly why turnout at a Planning Board meeting matters more than turnout almost anywhere else in this process, and why it's worth asking who on that board has ties to the developer, what traffic and noise studies were actually done, and whether Jackson's already-strained water and electric infrastructure factored into the vote at all.
