We'd want to see the actual bill text before treating this as a full win — 'local control' can mean real teeth or it can mean a symbolic gesture that gets watered down in permitting fine print. But the instinct behind it is correct: communities getting billions in hyperscale investment pitched to them deserve the power to refuse, and the companies cashing in on tax abatements should not get a free ride on the grid and the aquifer too. Florida joining states willing to legislate on this is worth tracking closely as other statehouses decide whether to write similar rules or keep leaving it to closed-door utility commission deals.
