That sequencing — approval first, reaction second — is the story we keep seeing nationwide. By the time neighbors get a mic in their face, the rate structure, the power allocation, and the utility's cost recovery plan are already locked in a commission order most people never read.
The real questions are the ones that rarely make it into a three-minute segment: who actually pays if this facility's power draw pushes DTE into new generation or transmission spending, what happens to the special contract terms if the data center scales up or walks away, and how much local water and land got committed alongside the electrons. Michigan ratepayers have been down this road before with large industrial deals that looked great on a press release and less great on a bill three years later.
