Data centers aplenty in Muskogee County
The short version: Tulsa's News Pulse tallies four data centers converging on Muskogee County — Polaris, Project Scissortail, and two new Google projects — but only samples the boomtown cheerleading, not the bill.
Our Take
Credit to Tulsa's News Pulse for spotting the pattern: Muskogee County isn't getting one data center, it's getting a cluster — Polaris Technology already humming, Project Scissortail rising across the street, and now two more Google facilities announced in the same week. When a rural county goes from 'no major job creation in over 20 years' to four hyperscale builds practically overnight, that's not organic growth. That's a deliberate siting strategy chasing cheap land, cheap power, and tax breaks — and it deserves more scrutiny than a B&B owner's occupancy rate.
We don't doubt the construction boom is real money for local entrepreneurs right now. But construction jobs are temporary; the megawatt draw, the water for cooling, and whatever incentive package got these companies to pick Muskogee are permanent. Nobody in this clip asks who's paying for the substation upgrades, whether ratepayers eat the grid costs once the temporary labor force leaves, or what these projects actually promised in their incentive agreements. Those are the questions that matter long after the Airbnb bookings dry up.
If you live near Muskogee — or anywhere else quietly turning into a data-center corridor — check our facility map to see what's already been built or approved near you, and use our take-action guide to find out how to get the actual contract terms, not just the ribbon-cutting quotes.
