Sanilac Township Planning Commissioner
August 20, 2026 6:00 p.m.
Sanilac Township Hall
Port Sanilac, Michigan 48469
Meeting Call to Order by Chairman, Branden Mack, followed by Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call: Roll call shows members Denise Bush, Branden Mack, Mike Preston, and
Trustee Tammy Massman present.
Guests: Margaret Peron

Approval of the Agenda brings a Motion to approve by Denise Bush with a Second by
Tammy Massman , Motion Carried.

Approval of the Minutes from July 15, 2026 brings a Motion by Mike Preston and a
Second by Tammy Massman to approve as written. Motion Carried.
Board Representative report : None

Zoning Report : Art Schtichting reported 3 new permits issued :
1) 282 N. Lakeshore Rd , a privacy fence
(2) 6678 Mann Rd , a pond
(3) 2821 S. Lakeshore Rd, a beach stairs

He also gave us a copy of the 2026 Land use Application form, which he recently
updated.
This new updated form replaces the one that was currently being used.
Art also said the Board has raised the permitting fees, which was long over due.
STR Administrator Report: Applications for Short Term Rentals are slowly coming in
which the most questions being about sewer , water and occupancy limits.
Motion to accept reports was made by Denise Bush and Seconded by Mike Preston.
Motion Carried.
Public Comments: None

Old Business:
Camper Trailers on properties with no Homes, water or sewer
Tonight meeting centered around the writing of an Ordinance pertaining to the
regulation of trailers, campers,etc. It has been brought to attention of the Township of
this continuing , growing problem. We have been reviewing samples of Ordinances from
the area and are crafting one that truly meets our Townships needs. This will be an

on-going project. We hope next month to to able to review and decide on a basic needs
outline.This is a difficult topic particularly since our area, so many people have campers,
mobile homes etc. and use them in so many different aspects ranging from hunting,
family visits or storage when not in use. Our primary focus will be on use where proper
health code requirement are not met.
New Business:
Discussion of the MTA Planning and Zoning Class we attended on Tuesday, August
18, 2026. This class covered the topics of Renewable Energy, Data Centers, Short Term
Rentals, Ordinance Enforcement and the Land division Act Amendment. Each of the
Commission members gained a great deal of knowledge on the topics.
