July 2026
Trainings and Certifications
July 13-16: Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America Mid-Year
Training Institute in Orlando, Florida: Skills gained in data collection,
management, and analysis, community organizing, prevention science;
networking with and learning from coalitions throughout the nation.
Behavioral Health Initiatives
July 8: QPR Suicide prevention training: 14 community
members certified in this life-saving modality!
Health Fairs and Outreach
July 25: Cobre Summerfest! 148 community members engaged,
medication lockboxes distributed, Deterra drug deactivation kits,
transportation resource guide handed out alongside prevention and
wellness materials. Lots of fun had by all!
July Health Council Meeting: 7/23
Our first time with the lunch-time meeting, and in-person attendance
almost doubled! Updates from community partners, sharing events
and recruiting volunteers, and presentations from Presbyterian and
the Opioid Remediation Collaborative.

August 2026
Presentations
August 31: Presented on rural and frontier public health and substance
misuse prevention at the bi-annual Office of Substance Abuse
Prevention Statewide Recipient Meeting
Behavioral Health Initiatives
August 4: Adult Mental Health First Aid Training for all Western New
Mexico University Resident Assistants and Housing Staff, ensuring RAs
have the skills and knowledge to support the students in on-campus
housing through mental health crises
Youth Mentorship and Engagement
Began working with local regional high schoolers and young adults
to develop media to be shared online in order to more fully
engage young people in substance misuse prevention, underage
drinking prevention, and mental wellness. This project will continue
being developed over the next fiscal year.
August Health Council Meeting: 8/27
Attendence continues to rise with the new meeting time. Networking,
sharing and promoting events, and health council members
supporting each other. Presentations from the NM Department of
Health on Language Access Initiatives, partner discussions on back to
school mental health.

Highlights September 2026
Trainings
September 9-11: National Latino Behavioral Health Association
Conference in Albuquerque. Skills gained in cultural competency,
behavioral health systems of care, language and accessibility, and
training curation. Learning from professionals from throughout the
nation.
Behavioral Health Initiatives
September 17: QPR Suicide Prevention Training, 4 community members
equipped in the Question, Persuade, Refer modality.
September 19: Overdose Prevention and Response Training for the
Recovery Management Center’s Recovery Day. 30 community members
trained and equipped with naloxone!
Health Fairs and Outreach
This month’s efforts revolved around planning and preparation for
the Mimbres Valley Health Fair that took place on October 3
(reports on this fair to come next quarter)
September Health Council Meeting: 9/17
Presentations from local leaders on the public health implications of
data centers and generative artificial intelligence, as well as
working together on upcoming projects, networking, and planning.
