COUNCIL BUSINESS
Mayor Galea asked Ms. Collene to brief council on the zoning inspector situation. Ms. Collene
noted she sent an email earlier providing council with a proposed contract with Safebuilt to
provide zoning inspector services to the Village. They can customize the services we need. They
would charge $100 per hour with a one hour minimum when work is performed. On average a
permit for a shed or garage would take 15 minutes. They work remote whenever possible. They
would handle complaints is asked to do so. We would have a designated contact person, we
would be invoiced monthly, and they would provide monthly reports. Discussion was held
regarding controlling the cost from sending the permits once a week to having our office be the
initial point of contact for complaints. We would then refer when necessary to Safebuilt. Their
locations closest to us would be Norwalk, Fremont, and Toledo. They are in 41 states and have
experience with data centers. Mr. Brown expressed concerns he had in dealing with them in the
past. He said they are very thorough but they hit roadblocks where they would not respond to
them and they had to reach out to the county commissioners for resolution. Discussion ensued
regarding the length of the contract and how to terminate it. They would be able to start as soon
as we sign the contract. They have our current zoning ordinance and the past two years of permits
we received. Ms. Collene expressed concern over the number of pending applications and the
lack of action the village is able to take at this time without the position being filled. She would
like approval at the September 8th regular meeting. It was requested that Ms. Collene reach out
to see if they can attend the next regular meeting to answer any questions.
